Ways of Stabilization and Development of the Mining Complex of the Murmansk Region

Under consideration in the paper there is modern state-of-art of the mining complex in the Murmansk region, its general social-economical problems and their reasons, as well as potential stabilization and long-prospects for development of proposals on support measures for the mining complex, mineral resources of the Murmansk region. A concept of stabilization and development of the Murmansk region mining complex has become the background for the present paper.

Radioecological Problems of Decommissioning of the Kola Nuclear Power Plant

Radioactive waste as sources of radiating danger for the environment and population is one of the urgent ecological problems of modern Russia. For the Murmansk region it is of special importance as it differs from other regions of Russia by high concentration of operating nuclear power systems (NPS) on the Kola Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and also nuclear-powered vessels of the Navy and icebreaking fleet. In the region the Kola NPP is one of the basic sources of radioactive waste (RW). Nowadays on the Kola NPP which has been working from 1973 there are four nuclear power units with reactor WWER-440. The first power unit of the plant should be stopped in 2003, and the last - in 2014. This work is devoted to the prognosis of radiation characteristics of Kola NPS activated structures and the management conditions of RW which are generated by decommissioning of the Kola NPP.

Geodynamical processes induced by the Barents sea shelf oil-and-gas fields development

The paper deals with the methods of assessment of rock state stress and the results of the in-situ study of underground hydrotechnical tunnels of the Verkhne-Teriberskaya and Borisoglebskaya HPS, the Kola Peninsula. Physical and mechanical properties of host rocks have been studied on samples and in-situ. It has been established that nature of excavation disturbed zone formed in the tunnel of rock mass contour is to a greater extent determined by mine working development technology and does not exceed values observed by mining practice. The number of fall-outs is small and conditioned by natural rock weathering along fractures in the course of continuous exploitation of mining workings. There have been revealed some tunnels sites, where regular monitoring of rock mass contour state is recommended.
